Personal profile

Research interests

To date I have completed two books on Theatre and Performance:

Presence in Play: A Critique of Theories of Presence in the Theatre (Rodopi 2008),

Stoicism and Performance: A Joyful Materialism (Brill 2019).

I am currently working on a third monograph whose provisional title is Performance and Faith. The aim of this book will be to investigate overlaps between Performance Studies and Theology. It will include 4 main chapters:

On Relating

On Kneeling

On Walking

On Wondering

These chapters will in different ways draw theological concepts and related practices into the ambit of Performance Studies.

This summer (2021) I will be presenting papers at two conferences, one which will explore the notion of the transcendent in the work of British playwright debbie tucker green, while another paper for the IFTR conference will explore the performative ecological dimension of the Christian mystical tradition.
