Further Information

My project will investigate carbon cycling within supraglacial debris. Our understanding of carbon cycling within the cryosphere, particularly within the supraglacial environment, is incomplete. This is a huge problem for modelling the carbon cycle and determining the role of debris covered glaciers in the global carbon budget. I’ll be using eddy covariance techniques, alongside microbial and meltwater analysis to measure the rates of carbon flux and investigate the role of microbes and chemical weathering. This will further our understanding of carbon flux and the controls within supraglacial debris, and determine the role of debris covered glaciers in carbon cycling.
