I started my career in education, working as a classroom teacher in schools for nine years. I then moved to higher education where for five years I was a teaching fellow in academic skills and learning development at two universities in the South West of England. My practitioner based experiences have influenced my primary research interest in the interaction between theory, policy, and practice, and how to increase research relevance.

My PhD research applies complexity theory as a theoretical framework to problematise performance management in schools. For the past four years I have been a Co-Investigator for an externally funded action-oriented research project, which is focused on the development of  complexity-informed public management practice.
